Getting to Neuschwanstein Castle
Cars are not allowed on the road leading directly to the castle, so here are your options from the village of Hohenschwangau:
Walking
The uphill walk to the castle takes 20 to 40 minutes and is steep in some parts. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
Horse-Drawn Carriage
Departing from Hotel Müller, the carriages take you partway up, but you’ll still need to walk about 10 to 15 minutes to the entrance.
The tickets for this can be purchased directly from the driver.
Shuttle Bus
The bus runs from parking lot P4 near Hohenschwangau Palace to Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge), from where it’s a downhill 10 to 15-minute walk to the castle entrance.
Tickets can be bought on board.
Note that buses don’t run in snowy or icy conditions.
